Elizabeth Town is a pretty rural settlement on the Bass Highway boasting some of the regions premier food attractions. It is the gateway to the region for visitors traveling from Devonport, Sheffield and Cradle Mountain.
The heart of Elizabeth Town has traditionally been spread between the Roadhouse and Elizabeth Town Hotel built in 1903. The hotel has recently undergone a transformation into ETC, a modern bakery café serving light meals and refreshments from 6am to 7.30pm daily. Visitors can enjoy a meal or relax with a drink on the deck looking out over the picturesque countryside to the Rubicon River below.
4km to the north of Elizabeth Town is Ashgrove Cheese, one of Australia's leading boutique cheese manufacturers. Visitors to Ashgrove can learn about cheese making through the observation windows and a short video presentation. Tasting samples are available for the full Ashgrove cheese range. Also on offer is one of Tasmania's largest selections of other Tasmanian hand made cheeses, gourmet foods and boutique wines.
A little further north and off the highway from Gannon's Hill Road is the beautiful setting of Villarett Gardens. Lovingly created over 30 years the gardens have evolved into a must see for all garden enthusiasts. Enjoy lunch or morning and afternoon tea in the gallery from Saturday to Thursday.
